Grandpa Max

Grandpa Max.
The reason that our family of three was flown back to the United States, was so that Kyle could see his Grandpa. Grandpa Max had cancer and was deteriorating quickly. We are so thankful for Red Cross and the fact that they flew our family of three across the ocean for a chance to see Grandpa once last time before he passed away. It was such a blessing to have all expenses of the plane ride taken care of and not have that to worry about. They also paid for a seat for Gunnar which was a huge blessing!
It was a very special time, especially for Kyle. Grandpa Max has always had a very special place in his heart and been a very influential person in his life. So much so that we named our little Gunnar, Gunnar Max after Grandpa.
We stayed in Eugene in Grandpa's house with him for about 2 weeks. While there we were blessed with one great day in which he was very awake and had a conversation with Kyle. He gave Kyle a fly-fishing rod and talked with about trips they had taken together.
While Grandpa slept a lot of the time we were there, we would go in his room and talk with him, and Gunnar would bring smiles to Grandpa's face with all his squealing and laughing. On the day that Grandpa was having conversations with us, he said "oh, it's my little Gordon." Kyle said "Grandpa, its Gunnar, not Gordon," to which Grandpa said "he will be called Gordon too!" It gave us a good laugh and Gunnar's new nickname quickly become Gordon.
Kyle left back to Germany on March 23rd and Grandpa passed away on March 27th. We are so thankful that we can have peace that Grandpa Max is in Heaven with our Heavenly Father and not suffering.

Beth, What a sweet post. Sorry to hear of your loss. It is never easy to lose some one you love but what a great feeling to know he is no longer suffering. He is so cute and I love his comment about calling Gunnar, Gorden:)
